What are Bigwasp Tattoo Cartridges?

Bigwasp tattoo cartridges are professional grade needle cartridges designed for use with all standard cartridge tattoo machines. Built with high-elastic silicone membranes, anti-backflow protection and semi-transparent tips for full needle visibility, Bigwasp cartridges deliver consistent, reliable performance session after session. Available in three lines — Energy, Transparent and Brown — each engineered for a specific tattooing style and preference.

Which cartridge type do you need?

Choosing the right cartridge depends on the style of work you do. Here is a quick breakdown of the four main needle configurations available in the Bigwasp range:

  • Round Liners (RL) — Needles grouped in a tight round formation. Best for precise linework, scripts, fine lines and detailed outlines.
  • Round Shaders (RS) — Similar round grouping but with more spacing between needles. Best for soft shading, smooth gradients and colour blending.
  • Magnums (M) — Needles arranged in two rows. Best for colour packing, large area coverage and bold shading.
  • Curve Magnums (CM) — Curved magnum configuration that follows the skin contour. Best for smooth black and grey gradients and realistic shading work.

Energy, Transparent and Brown — what is the difference?

Bigwasp cartridges are available in three distinct lines, each with different characteristics to suit different artists and working styles:

  • Energy Cartridges — The flagship Bigwasp line. High-elastic rubber membrane, anti-backflow protection and oblique mouth design for precise ink delivery. Suited to all styles from fine line to colour realism.
  • Transparent Cartridges — Crystal clear housing for maximum needle visibility during tattooing. Popular with fine line and single needle artists who need to see exactly where the needle is at all times.
  • Brown Cartridges — Smooth consistent ink flow optimized for shading work. Designed for artists who specialize in black and grey realism, portrait work and soft blending techniques.

How many cartridges come in a box?

All Bigwasp cartridge boxes contain 20 individually sterile packed cartridges. Each cartridge is single use and comes ready to use straight out of the box — no additional sterilization required. For high volume studios, Bigwasp cartridges are also available in mixed packs of 50 pieces.

Are Bigwasp cartridges compatible with my machine?

Bigwasp cartridges are compatible with the vast majority of standard cartridge tattoo machines including all Bronc wireless pen machines, as well as machines from other leading brands. The standard industry connection ensures a secure fit and smooth operation across most pen style and rotary cartridge machines.

How to choose the right needle size?

Tattoo needle sizes are expressed as a number followed by a letter — for example 5RL or 9M. The number refers to the needle count and the letter refers to the configuration type. As a general guide:

  • 1RL — 5RL — Ultra fine to fine linework. Best for single needle, micro realism and detailed script.
  • 7RL — 9RL — Standard linework. Most versatile size for outlines and general linework.
  • 11RL — 14RL — Bold lines and thick outlines. Best for traditional and neo-traditional styles.
  • 7M — 9M — Medium magnum. Best for shading medium sized areas and colour work.
  • 13M — 15M — Large magnum. Best for large area colour packing and background work.
